THE PROJECT

A workspace that runs on your own machine.

OpenCadence is a single-user app for organising freelance work. Keep your projects, tasks, notes and customer relationships in one place, with data stored locally rather than in a cloud account.

It’s not live yet. I’m preparing it for release, with a complete local Community edition and a separate Cloud service planned for people who would rather have the hosting looked after.

Community: the complete local app

OpenCadence Community is the complete local application, not a cut-down trial. It works without a cloud account and keeps its data on your machine. Core workspace features aren’t deliberately held back to push you towards a hosted subscription. Community is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0, so you can run, inspect, modify and share it under the licence’s terms.

Cloud: hosting and connected services, planned

OpenCadence Cloud is a planned commercial service for people who want OpenCadence to handle hosting and connected services. It may charge for managed infrastructure, synchronisation, collaboration, integrations, delivery services, support and other ongoing operations. Those services are separate from Community and don’t change your rights to run, inspect, modify or share the local edition under its licence. Cloud isn’t available yet.

Built to run locally

The app uses Next.js App Router, TypeScript, React, Server Actions and SQLite. There’s no separate database service, Docker or cloud account to set up. Fonts are bundled locally, and neither the app nor its optional local MCP server makes runtime third-party requests. The MCP server gives AI clients a way to work with the local app; an AI client’s own network use is separate.

A closer look

The OpenCadence branding is shown above. Product screenshots will follow when there’s more to share.
